According to several media outlets, Liz Truss will attend the first meeting of the European Political Community

British Prime Minister Liz Truss has decided to attend the first meeting of the European Political Community on October 6 in Prague, several media outlets reported on Thursday evening (September 28).

The Conservative leader wants to attend because energy and migration, which are on the agenda for the meeting, are among her priorities and require cooperation with other European leaders, according to Britain’s PA news agency.

According to website Politico, the UK has let Europeans know that Liz Truss, in turmoil over her massive tax cut plan, wants not only to attend the October 6 meeting, but even to host the next summit of this new body in London.

The then Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, had nonetheless expressed skepticism about the project for a platform for political dialogue and cooperation launched by French President Emmanuel Macron in May.

“I prefer to build on already existing and successfully functioning structures, whether G7 or NATO”She said.

Liz Truss, a late convert to the Brexit cause, has often struck a hard note on the EU and was the architect of the legislation aimed at suspending the post-Brexit deal on Northern Ireland, a source of tensions with Brussels to put.

44 invited countries

According to a European official, 44 countries have been invited to the first European Political Community meeting.

The letter of invitation to the leaders of the 27 and the candidate countries or the bloc’s neighbors was sent on behalf of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, whose country holds the rotating EU Presidency of the Council.

In addition to the member states of the Union, the heads of state and government of the six Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia), the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, Ukraine, Moldova, Iceland, Georgia , Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein.

The first meeting, which will be attended by Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, will take place at Heads of State or Government level on October 6 in Prague, on the eve of a summit on October 27 7.

The CPE should consist of a plenary session, round tables, bilateral meetings and a closing dinner. The EU ensures that this body is not an alternative solution to expanding the bloc.
