After a fall reduced to a slide by the referee’s judgement, Smith succumbed for the first time to Beterbiev’s hammer blows. A first count of eight just before the end of the initial round.

Smith didn’t have enough of the regulation 60 seconds to recover, so Beterbiev offered him repeated visits to the mat until the official was forced to end the massacre after a knee from Smith had touched the ground for the third time in this second round.
