Bayraktar drone factory to open in Ukraine, says Zelensky
(Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday presented an award to the head of the Turkish company that makes Bayraktar combat drones and announced plans to open a factory in Ukraine.
Bayraktar TB2 drones, developed by the Baykar company, have played a crucial role since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, destroying numerous Russian military targets and contributing to the resistance of the Kiev army against an enemy with significantly higher firepower.
“We discussed the terms of building a Baykar factory in Ukraine and manufacturing new products using Ukrainian components,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in a post on the Internet.
A video shows Ukrainian President Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar, being awarded the Order of Merit.
Turkey has allowed many Bayraktar TB2 drones to be sold to Kyiv despite protests from Russia.
