Beauvais. Consumed by alcohol, the former pro cyclist Guillaume Levarlet in prison for six months
The people of Beauvais who have followed cycling for many years know it. Guillaume Levarlet raced professionally for more than 10 years before stopping his career in 2018. Among his most prestigious competitions, we note his participation in two Tour de France.
But since that time, the former champion has mainly been talked about for his legal troubles. Already, in 2013, he was the cause of a fatal accident while driving under the influence of an alcoholic state. This addiction to alcohol does not seem to have improved. Convicted again in January for having driven while having consumed alcohol, he did it again in March.
Six months in prison
According the Courier Picard, which relates the hearing of the criminal court of Beauvais, Guillaume Levarlet would have threatened with death the new friend of his ex-companion. This, after consuming alcohol most of the day.
He would even have gone to the victim’s workplace to break down the door. 2.38 grams of alcohol per liter of blood were then measured in the former cyclist after his arrest. It is moreover by his excessive consumption that the defendant tries to explain his gesture.
This was not enough for the court to pronounce a new reprieve. Guillaume Levarlet is finally sentenced to four months in prison, to which is added two months of suspended sentence.
