Citroën My Ami Buggy: a limited series sold out in 18 minutes
It is an understatement to say that the Citroën Ami surprised at its presentation. This small car without an electric license, with a symmetrical profile, is experiencing a real craze, despite youthful worries, which today seem behind it. Now that its career is on the right track, the chevron brand has decided to continue to shine the spotlight on this model. First with a My Ami Buggy Concept concept car, unveiled in December 2021. Open to all winds and equipped with studded tires, it brought a fun scent of escape. The real surprise is that Citroën had the nerve to produce a production version.
Admittedly, the style of the standard Citroën My Ami Buggy is a little watered down compared to the concept car. The wheels are more conventional, there are no more storage bags in the side protection arches, nor the cushions on the seats… But the style is still cute. The body abandons the bluish gray “Ami blue” for khaki green, still tinted in the mass. This is accented with bright yellow colored elements, both inside and out. The glazed roof gives way to an opening canvas element, the doors disappear in favor of tubular elements and the sheet metal rims are adorned with a golden hue. Thus open to all winds, the Citroën My Ami Buggy is in the tradition of carts designed to navigate the coast, like before it the Ligier JS8 Plage and Be Up, Aixam Mac or the strange Volteis V+ designed by Philippe Starck .
50 copies of Citroën My Ami Buggy sold in 18 minutes
Obviously, such a variation does not meet any need and its sales potential is limited. However, Citroën claims to have collected no less than 1,800 expressions of interest following the presentation of the concept car. This is why Citroën has decided to make the My Ami Buggy a limited series of fifty copies, only offered for sale on the Internet, on Monday June 21 at noon. A few days earlier, an announcement was made to announce the terms and the price of 9,790 euros. The operation was a success: the fifty copies found takers in 17 minutes and 28 seconds.

Citroën has therefore managed to attract collectors and arouse the crush with a car without an electric license. This is a feat that deserves to be highlighted! Because this type of limited series, where there are more candidates than elected, is usually the preserve of the most prestigious manufacturers, such as Bugatti, Ferrari or Lamborghini. These are used to presenting their limited editions under the cloak to their most loyal customers, who already have several cars. This means that most of the time, the copies are already sold out before they are even presented to the general public.
The Ami Buggy leaving the usual spectrum of its production, Citroën could not act in the same way, but the speed at which the copies were sold, as well as the ultra-limited number of copies, all numbered, will make the machine a real collector’s item. It will also be interesting, in the weeks to come, to see if the rating of the car climbs as is the case for the hypercars manufactured in a handful of copies. What is an argument for the wealthy customers of the most established brands could also be, on a lesser scale, for this nice vehicle. In any case, it would seem that Citroën is not closed to the idea of trying the experience again. A publication on the social networks of Vincent Cobée, boss of Citroën, gives hope for other fantasies of the same kind: “Next time, we will make sure that there is something for everyone”, he concludes…
