Climate change: why we need to bury telecom networks
Will France‘s telecom network withstand a tornado or a new series of dramatic fires? The question was raised at the University of Very High Speed, the annual event that brought the telecoms sector together in Toulouse on Wednesday.
Telecom operators, elected officials, regulators: all speakers initially unanimously welcomed the success of the fiber optic installation in France. A colossal project carried out at the initiative of the incumbent operator Orange, acting as a locomotive passed on by the entire sector with strong support from the public authorities. “We built the most reliable, efficient and ecological network in history in record time,” said Christel Heydemann, the managing director, who spoke via video conference. We can be proud of the task we have accomplished, but there is still a long way to go.”
