COVID-19: four deaths

The latest figures from Quebec public health report four new deaths linked to COVID-19.

As for the figures concerning hospitalizations and people in intensive care in Quebec, they will be updated from tomorrow due to a change in methodology.

In the health network, 6,418 health care workers are absent for reasons related to COVID-19.

1,224 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded across the province, according to the government report. Remember that the number of cases listed is not representative of the current situation, since access to screening centers is reserved for priority clienteles.

In a press briefing last week, Dr. Luc Boileau wanted to reassure the population, since the seventh wave of the virus should soon reach a “plateau”.

Even if the BA.5 variant represents nearly 45% of cases in Quebec, it would be less virulent than the other COVID variants. However, BA.5 remains much more transmissible than its counterparts, according to Benoit Barbeau, professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at UQAM and expert in virology.

Starting today, children aged six months to five years will be able to get vaccinated against COVID-19 across the province.
