DAKAR (Reuters) – Egypt has informed the UN that it will suspend its participation in the activities of the United Nations Mission in Mali (Minusma) because of the multiplication of attacks against its blue helmets escorting the supply convoys of the UN bases, a spokesman for the organization said on Friday.
These attacks have caused the death of seven Egyptian soldiers since the beginning of the year.
“We have been informed that as a result, the Egyptian contingent will temporarily suspend its activities within Minusma from August 15,” a UN spokesman said.
