Four-time Olympic medalist Kylie Masse ensured a good lane in the 100m backstroke final by finishing 1st in her group in the women’s semi-final.

The Canadian covered the distance in 58 s 57/100.

Only the American Regan Smith did better, in the other heat of qualification, with a time of 57 s 65/100.

The grand finale will take place on Monday.

American consecration to the butterfly style

The American Torri Huske (55 s 64/100) became world champion in the 100m butterfly ahead of the Frenchwoman Marie Wattel (56 s 14/100) and the Chinese Zhang Yufei (56 s 41/100).

His compatriot Caeleb Dressel continued the American butterfly-style dominance by winning the 50m event a few minutes later.

The Floridian won gold (22 s 57/100) ahead of the 42-year-old Brazilian Nicholas Santos (22 s 78/100) and the American Michael Andrew (22 s 79/100).
