False allegations against Garrido and Corbière: the investigation is entrusted to an investigating magistrate

The investigation into Point’s false allegations of targeting LFI MPs Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière is accelerating: the investigation was entrusted to an examining magistrate on Thursday, who will be brought before a former associate of UDI boss Jean-Christophe Lagarde got to. who was released from police custody.

Paris prosecutors opened Thursday morning a judicial inquiry into “the leader of fraud in an organized gang, forgery and use of forgery, theft of identity or personal data and concealment of theft,” he indicated.

As part of this investigation, a person will be “transferred today for presentation to an investigating judge and for possible indictment,” said the public prosecutor.

That suspect, Rudy Succar, a former associate of Mr Lagarde, has been in police custody since Tuesday.

Jean-Christophe Lagarde, head of the UDI and ex-MP who was beaten by Raquel Garrido in the Seine-Saint-Denis general election in June, was arrested at his home on Wednesday morning.

His police custody was released Wednesday night without charge at this time, prosecutors said. His attorney declined to comment.

A police officer, Anouar Bouhadjela, also known as Noam Anouar, was also released without charge at the time late Wednesday afternoon. He was assigned to the town hall of Drancy (Seine-Saint-Denis) and had been taken into police custody the day before.

This town of around 70,000 people is Mr. Lagarde’s former stronghold, run by his wife Aude Lavail-Lagarde since 2017.

The affair began in June, shortly after the second round of the general election, with the publication of an article by journalist Aziz Zemouri on the Point website, which wrongly accused the couple of exploiting an undocumented cleaning lady. Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière had immediately rejected these allegations. “This is all wrong,” they protested.

Very rare fact, the article had been withdrawn the next day and the newspaper had admitted in an address to readers that it had “turned out to be false” and “lied”.

When the weekly discovered flaws in its “internal control procedures”, it launched an internal investigation and Mr Zemouri was fired at the end of June.

– Three Complaints –

On June 29, the Paris public prosecutor opened a preliminary investigation into the three complaints lodged by the Garrido-Corbière couple, Aziz Zemouri and Jean-Christophe Lagarde.

The journalist directs his complaint against the former deputy UDI and Anouar Bouhadjela.

According to his story, it was this police officer who contacted him at the end of May to put him in touch with a woman who claimed to be an undeclared and undocumented domestic help to the Garrido-Corbière couple.

Mr Bouhadjela told him he worked for Mr Lagarde, Mr Zemouri assures in his complaint consulted by AFP.

For Mes Nabila Asmane and Vincent Brengarth, Mr Bouhadjela’s lawyers, “Mr Zemouri’s complaint is a smoke screen to dismiss the apparent lack of investigation he has demonstrated while crucifying one of his sources”.

The journalist “tried to protect himself from disapproval by burning all kinds of wood, even the most irrational ones,” the two councils condemned.

Jean-Christophe Lagarde, head of the UDI (Union of Democrats and Independents) since 2014, has in turn filed a complaint for breach of trust.

When Mr Largarde was taken into police custody on Wednesday, Raquel Garrido said she was “pleased that the investigation is progressing”.

“I remind you that this case goes far beyond simple defamation or insult. It is indeed a violation of criminal law,” she added on BFMTV, hoping “justice will pursue his work.”

It is the Crime Against the Person Suppression Brigade (BRDP) that is tasked with investigating.

The Garrido-Corbière couple also filed a second defamation lawsuit against Aziz Zemouri and Le Point.
