Finland adjusts Schengen rules and closes its borders to Russian tourists

Finland on Thursday (September 29) made the decision to restrict tourism and transit from Russia under the Schengen Borders Code. The country cites a threat risk while its border runs along Russia.

Finland’s decision differs slightly from that of the Baltic states, which saw Russian tourists as a threat to their security and therefore closed their borders in all directions.

Finland, for its part, has established its new restrictions on Article 6 of the Schengen Borders Code. The code in question provides that the entry of third-country nationals is possible provided that they are not taken into account “a threat to public order, internal security, public health or international relations of any of the Member States”.

Actually theSchengen States have room for maneuver in national decisions and policies, taking into account factors such as international relations and security – and in accordance with the Schengen Code.

The restrictions come into effect on Friday (September 30) and are intended to stop tourism and transit until further notice However, there are exceptions to the rule.

Visas can be issued to family members, people with an established doctor-patient relationship in a Finnish hospital and people with a valid residence permit in Finland, another Schengen country or a non-Schengen country. Possession of real estate does not constitute a passport for obtaining a visa or entry into the territory.

The government has also stressed that Schengen visas are not a solution for people in need of international protection. If there is a suspicion that a visa applicant could later apply for asylum, his visa application will be rejected. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced this ” investigate ” the introduction of a humanitarian visa.
