Food crisis: Macron wants to “twist the neck” of Russian “untruths”
Emmanuel Macron explained on Tuesday July 26 in Yaoundé that he wanted to “blow the neck of many Russian untruths” on the reasons for the world food crisis which, according to him, are experiencing “a certain success in African public opinion”.
“It is not the sanctions which have created the situation but the war decided by Russia. It is nevertheless the responsibility of Russia, the situation in which we are”, declared the President of the Republic during a meeting devoted to food security and the role of the private sector, organized at the residence of the French Embassy in Yaoundé.

Emmanuel Macron began this Tuesday by Cameroon, led with an iron fist for 40 years by Paul Biya, his first African tour since his re-election in April.
At the same time, the head of Russian diplomacy Sergei Lavrov, also on tour on the continent, considered for his part that Russia was not responsible for the “energy and food crises”. “There is a very vocal campaign around this, but our African friends understand the root cause,” he said from Entebbe in Uganda, the third leg of his African tour.
Beware of cereal exports
“They (these crises) are not related to what is happening within the framework of the special military operation,” Sergei Lavrov added, using Kremlin terminology to refer to the conflict in Ukraine.
This tour of Sergei Lavrov in Africa comes after a major agreement signed Friday July 22 between Russia and Ukraine, under the aegis of the United Nations and Turkey, to allow in particular the export of 20 to 25 million tons of cereals blocked in Ukraine. But a Russian strike the next day on the Ukrainian port of Odessa on the Black Sea, vital for the grain trade, however, raised concerns about the implementation of the agreement.
In Yaoundé on Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron “welcomed” the signed agreement, saying he was “cautious about its ability” to be implemented.
