France: The future electric Renault 4 will be manufactured in Maubeuge

PARIS (Reuters) – The future electric Renault 4, one of the attractions of the next Paris Motor Show, will be manufactured in France at the Maubeuge (North) plant, the Renault Group announced in a press release on Thursday.

The car, of which only a photo of the front, a nod to the mythical ’60s 4L and a snapshot of the silhouette have been released so far, is scheduled for release in 2024.

This small SUV will follow in the footsteps of the new electric Renault 5 allocated to the Douai (North) plant and also announced for 2024, as well as a new Scenic, more SUV than minivan, also in an electric version, planned for Douai too from 2023.

Renault CEO Luca de Meo has relaunched these two iconic models from the diamond brand to ride the neo-retro wave that made the Mini and Fiat 500 so happy.

The future R5 and R4 are designed to help the French automaker return to electric racing by opting for smaller, more affordable models. Pioneering this technology with Nissan over the past decade, Renault has been dethroned by newcomers like Tesla or by the ambitions of Volkswagen.
