Garrido-Corbière case: ex-MP Jean-Christophe Lagarde and two men in police custody

Former MP Jean-Christophe Lagarde, a police officer and former aide to the head of the UDI, is in police custody as part of an investigation into Point’s false allegations of targeting MP couple Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière, a close source said and the Paris Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday.

Jean-Christophe Lagarde, head of the UDI and ex-MP who was beaten by Raquel Garrido in the June 2022 general election, was arrested at his home on Wednesday morning, a source familiar with the matter said, confirming information from the Parisian.

A police officer, Anouar Bouhadjela, known as Noam Anouar, was taken into custody on Tuesday, a source close to the case told AFP, which was confirmed by Paris prosecutors. This police officer is seconded to the town hall of Drancy, Jean-Christophe Lagarde’s former stronghold, run by his wife Aude Lavail-Lagarde since 2017.

A third man, a former associate of Jean-Christophe Lagarde, was also taken into police custody on Tuesday, according to the close source.

Both hearings have been extended and were still ongoing as of Wednesday, the source said.

“I am satisfied that the investigation is progressing. I would like to remind you that this case goes far beyond mere defamation or insult. It is indeed a violation of criminal law,” Raquel Garrido explained on BFMTV on Wednesday.

“I hope that the judiciary will go to the end of its work,” added MP LFI.

In June, Le Point published an article online by journalist Aziz Zemouri wrongly accusing the couple of exploiting an undocumented cleaning lady, which the two elected officials immediately firmly denied: “Everything is wrong,” they protested .

The article was withdrawn the following day and the newspaper admitted that in an address to readers the article was “proved to be false” and “misleading”.

On June 29, the Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into fraud in an organized gang, counterfeiting and use of forgeries, identity and data theft and transferred the investigation to the Brigade for Combating Personal Crime (BRDP).

This inquiry examines three complaints made by the Garrido-Corbière couple, Aziz Zemouri and Jean-Christophe Lagarde.

The journalist directs his complaint against former UDI MPs Jean-Christophe Lagarde and Anouar Bouhadjela.

According to his story, it was this police officer who contacted him at the end of May to put him in touch with a woman who claimed to be an undocumented and undocumented domestic help to the couple.

The head of the UDI has filed a complaint for breach of trust.

The weekly recognized weaknesses in its “internal control procedures” and launched an internal investigation, which led to Mr Zemouri’s dismissal at the time.

The Garrido-Corbière couple filed a second defamation complaint against Aziz Zemouri and the weekly.
