Google presents its “French cloud”

Distribution of green plants, large multicolored tubes, electric Renault stand at the entrance… Despite a fine rain, Google had pulled out all the stops, this Thursday, June 30, to demonstrate its commitment to its French customers. At the Maison de la Mutualité, the Mountain View group had reserved the five floors of the Parisian room – where the Socialist Party once galvanized the crowds – to present its partnership with Thales in the “cloud of trust”. But above all, announce the opening of several new data centers in Ile-de-France.

Google’s “French-style cloud” takes the form of a connected city. The participants have, on their badge, a miniature where France is represented in the style of the famous search engine – or a “doodle”, in the jargon of the company. In the middle of various French symbols, the Eiffel Tower, which represents the capital, occupies a central place. And for good reason, Google announced on Thursday the opening of its first “cloud region” in the Paris suburbs. After Oracle at the beginning of the month, the American giant is strengthening its public cloud offer in the territory and intends to catch up with its competitors Microsoft and Amazon, the market leader, established since December 2017 in France.
