Great Britain: Priti Patel resigns as interior minister
LONDON (Reuters) – Priti Patel announced on Twitter on Monday that she was resigning as Home Secretary, hours after Liz Truss had been elected leader of the Conservative Party to succeed Boris Johnson. as leader of the Tories and as Prime Minister.
“Serving as Home Secretary is my greatest pride,” Priti Patel wrote in a tweet. “I am proud of our efforts to support law enforcement, reform our immigration policy and protect our country.”
Liz Truss is due to travel to Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Tuesday to be instructed by Queen Elizabeth II to form a government.
Priti Patel congratulated Liz Truss on her victory in her resignation letter, posted on Twitter, and explained that she wanted to focus on her role as Member of Parliament for Witham constituency once her successor was chosen.
