Kanye West is buying the American social network Parler

(Reuters) – Parliament Technologies, the parent company of the social network Parler, announced on Monday that it has been acquired by rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, after changing his name last year.

Parler, an app popular in conservative circles, said it expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of 2022. She didn’t say how much the deal would cost.

“In a world where conservative views are considered controversial, we must ensure we have the right to express ourselves freely,” Kanye West said in a statement.

The American rapper’s Instagram and Twitter accounts have previously faced restrictions, most recently this month, after the platforms removed posts deemed anti-Semitic.

The rapper announced in 2020 that he wanted to run for President of the United States in an apparent challenge to former US President Donald Trump, but later withdrew.

Parler formed a new parent company, Parliament Technologies Inc, as part of a reorganization last month.

Kanye West also ended a partnership with American apparel giant GAP last month, saying the group had failed to meet its contractual obligations.
