NAIROBI (Reuters) – William Ruto was sworn in on Tuesday, becoming Kenya’s fifth president since independence. He succeeded Uhuru Kenyatta, whose vice president he was from 2013 until his election.
William Ruto, 55, was declared the winner of Kenya’s presidential election by the electoral commission in mid-August, despite divisions within that body.
Defeated opposition candidate Raila Odinga, 77, running for president for the fifth time and enjoying the support of his former rival Uhuru Kenyatta, uncovered massive fraud and appealed to the Supreme Court, unsuccessfully, as the panel upheld victory last Monday William Rutho.
