La Nupes organizes its summer days in scattered order
Stay in your party, and above all, do not add to the divisions. Gathered within the Nupes at the National Assembly, La France insoumise, the Socialist Party, EELV and the Communists intend to reaffirm each their singularity during their back-to-school universities, which will be organized separately from Thursday, each in their respective camp. .
Each party will have to take stock of a long electoral sequence rich in lessons for the left: the presidential domination of Jean-Luc Mélenchon (22%) which relegates the other parties below the 5% mark in the first round, the creation of a coalition in the National Assembly in May which obtained 150 deputies in June, but failed to win a majority, the differences which were quick to resurface…
Universities are an opportunity for parties to refocus around their activists. Thus, the Greens open their Summer Days (JDE) in Grenoble, Thursday, with a session where they will rejoice in “ecology returning to the Assembly”. Friday, they will devote an evening to Europe, because it is “important to affirm our European specificity in the period”, explains to AFP its organizer, Marine Tondelier.
“A life outside the Nupes”
The same day in Blois, the rose party will ask itself “what the people of the left expect from the PS” and the next day, “with whom are we fighting?”. Indeed the question of alliances in the next electoral deadlines was invited in the heart of the summer, with the proposal of the deputy Insoumis and lieutenant of Jean-Luc Mélenchon Manuel Bompard to renew the Nupes for the European elections of 2024.
The reserved responses from ecologists, socialists and communists show that each party seeks to guard against the risk of LFI hegemony. “There is a life outside of Nupes”, exclaims Marine Tondelier, even if she underlines the holding of a debate Thursday evening with partners of Nupes. “When I joined the Greens, we spent our time defining ourselves in relation to the PS, I don’t want us to fall back into that vis-à-vis the Nupes. We have to take care of the movement of political ecology”, insists the elected representative of Hénin-Beaumont.
Precisely, the Summer Days of Ecologists will be an opportunity to prepare for the party congress, scheduled for December, and to come back to Marine Tondelier’s proposal to “refound” EELV into a broader movement. A proposal which has already received the support of the former presidential candidate Yannick Jadot, last Sunday, in the pages of the JDD.

However, keeping alive the dynamics of a united left is essential for each organization, aware of the expectations of victory of its voters. All the parties have made a place, in the program for their return, to the invitations of the other components of the Nupes. The Insoumis are the most outgoing, anxious to remain at the center of an alliance they have driven. The traditional meeting of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Sunday in Châteauneuf-sur-Isère near Valence, will thus include speeches by representatives of the PS, the PCF and EELV.
LFI will have previously held a conference on Thursday afternoon on the negotiations that led to the Nupes, with the participation of the main negotiators from EELV, the PS and Generations. As well as an exchange Friday afternoon on the proposals of the Nupes in the face of the social emergency with the eco-feminist Sandrine Rousseau and the socialist Arthur Delaporte.

Marlène Schiappa, guest of LFI
In addition, LFI has amplified its policy of inviting personalities from the macronie and the right, in order to demonstrate that it is the first opposition: the Secretary of State in charge of the Solidarity Economy Marlène Schiappa will debate Friday with Alexis Corbière on the Republic; the Minister Delegate for Transport Clément Beaune on the same day with Manon Aubry on the European Union; the Minister Delegate for SMEs Olivia Grégoire on Saturday with Adrien Quatennens on purchasing power; and former right-wing minister Rachida Dati on Saturday with Ugo Bernalicis on justice.
Invitations that did not please the influential sociologist on the radical left Didier Eribon (“Return to Reims”, Fayard): “What (the Insoumis) unfortunately seek is to be recognized and legitimized by those we owe fight. What a mistake!” As for the Communists, whose boss Fabien Roussel has kept a certain distance from the Nupes events, they are organizing a single debate in Strasbourg with Mr. Roussel, the LFI deputy Aurélie oublie and the socialist Laurent Baumel.
