Le Croq, Plailly, La Neuville-en-Hez, Le Hamel… Firefighters on 13 fires at the same time
The firefighters of the Oise had a lot to do on Tuesday July 19: they found themselves fighting against 13 fires in natural spaces in the four corners of the Oise. The firefighters clearly intervened in the communes of Crocq, La Neuville-en-Hez or Le Hamel. Added to this were fires whose smoke disrupted traffic on the A16 motorway near Oroër, near Beauvais. And, above all, the fire in the Ermenonville forest, not far from Parc Astérix, where 16 hectares of pine forest went up in smoke. This last fire affected three municipalities: Plailly, Mortefontaine and Thiers-sur-Thève. It was gradually brought under control overnight.
The heat spike played a role
A total of 250 firefighters were mobilized for these various operations. And even if the fires are contained, the damage is there: a cumulative 145 hectares have burned. Tuesday’s heat spike played a role in triggering these flare-ups. The temperature exceeded 40 degrees at the height of the day. Added to this were gusts of wind at the end of the afternoon. These could reach 80 km / hour.
