On Facebook, Pauline Joly’s post has been shared nearly 4,000 times in just three days. In this post, the young woman explains how, this Saturday, June 25, she found her dog hanged on her way home, in Lihus, near Crèvecœur-le-Grand. Luckily, she arrived in time to pick up and save Orus, her young Malinois shepherd.

In his testimony, the victim recounts numerous incidents with the neighborhood. Her two dogs would bark a lot when she and her companion were away from home. This would create tension to the point that she had already found meatballs full of nails in her garden.

Barking causing tension

Thierry Levasseur, the mayor of the town, confirms that when they arrived in the village, almost four years ago, he received numerous complaints at the town hall. The solution found was then to equip the doggies with anti-bark collars. After that, “it calmed down”assures the aedile.

It was not until the second round of the legislative elections, on June 19, that the situation became very tense again, according to the mayor. “The dogs apparently barked all night. I redid a formal notice and I deposited the mail in the mailbox on Friday. Less than 24 hours before the tragedy.
The version of Pauline Joly corroborates that of Thierry Levasseur, since she explains having received a letter the day before the facts.

Saved in extremis

This Saturday, June 25, it was on returning from work that the owner would have discovered Orus unconscious. “I walk into my yard and find that all the doors to my outside buildings are open and one of my dogs is missing from his kennel, she says on Facebook. Panicked, I look for my dog, I enter the building next to my dogs’ kennels, and I discover my dog hanging completely unconscious from a beam with a choke collar.

For the moment, nothing other than his testimony can authenticate the facts. “But I believe her”specifies the mayor, recounting the day as he experienced it. “I was called on Saturday around 5 p.m. by the gendarmerie at Madame Joly and her companion for an act of cruelty to an animal. So I moved.” An act of cruelty “unforgivable”.

When he arrived on site, Thierry Levasseur could not really see the facts since everything was over. “People apparently walked over the portal. That would have happened between 2 and 3 p.m. Saturday is a time when most people are at home and busy. Hence my astonishment. You have to have what it takes in the pants to get in, take it from the kennel to the other building and hang it. The two Malinois are very impressive”comments the aedile.

But the chosen one, also a dog owner, sympathizes and officially supports his administration. “I’m sorry for what happened. Today, I am ready to reach out to find an answer or find a solution.” He adds : “It is an unspeakable act. Unforgivable.”

“False” remarks in the Facebook post?

However, the mayor of the town remains in the conditional when he speaks of this affair. He questions remarks made by Pauline Joly in her Facebook post which would be “fake”, according to him. The young woman assures that the municipality would have answered her “you just have to separate yourself from your dogs” after she explained her story. “I can swear to you on everything I hold dearest in the world that I never said that. I can’t say that. I love animals. And then from an ethical point of view, as mayor… No I can’t», answers the aedile. For him, a solution could be to install a screen along the fence. Because it is especially when dogs pass by that the Malinois “pounce on it”according to what he was told.

But with the buzz on social networks, the voice of Thierry Levasseur becomes inaudible to Internet users. “Today I am threatened on the mailbox of the town hall. It is beyond all comprehension. I reached out my hand”, he defends himself. As a result, he could not stop there and demand accountability, too. “I can’t let myself be dragged through the mud. I understand his dismay. […] But we have to weigh it.” The elected official concludes: “If there’s a scapegoat to be found, it’s not me.”

On the justice side, the Beauvais prosecutor’s office confirms that“a complaint was filed on Monday”. “Investigations are underway to determine whether or not the reality of the facts denounced”says the prosecution.
