Marine Le Pen destroys the match between Bardella and Aliot
It’s a campaign opener, with the two candidates speaking for less than fifteen minutes and the outgoing for almost 45 minutes. At the National Assembly (RN) Parliamentary Days on September 18, Marine Le Pen left little room for the two candidates to succeed her at the helm of the party. MEP Jordan Bardella and Perpignan Mayor Louis Aliot barely had time to outline the main lines of their presidency before the leader of the far-right tricolor made his big homecoming speech.
Everything is being done within the RN to minimize the problem of choosing the next party leader. On paper, however, the change is historic. On November 5, the FN-turned-RN will be chaired by a non-Le Pen member for the first time in fifty years.
In fact, nobody within the party sees an era change. “With 41% in the second round of the presidential election and 89 MPs, Marine Le Pen has taken our camp to an unrivaled level and is our undisputed leader,” said MP Philippe Ballard. The best evidence is that we hardly speak between MPs in the game between Jordan and Louis.”
On September 17th, Marine Le Pen certainly revived interest in the competition a little by promoting it western France that she would only run for the next presidential election in “extraordinary circumstances”. Are we to understand that barring such circumstances, the next RN president would be the RN’s natural candidate in 2027? “It doesn’t close any doors with that, because everything depends on the definition of exceptional circumstances,” laughs MEP Jean-Paul Garraud. “Even if she gives up, there will be another congress in three years that could be an opportunity to nominate our candidate,” adds MP Franck Allisio.
“Navy will go in 2027”
“My belief is that Marine will leave,” confides her special adviser and brother-in-law, Philippe Olivier, simply because we have no other candidate who has developed such a relationship with the French.” She herself declared on September 18, ” not to give up the political struggle, the defense of the French and the desire to put the country on the road to recovery”.
One after the other, the two candidates for party leadership also swore allegiance to the Hénin-Beaumont MP on 18 September. Jordan Bardella wanted to say “simply thank you” to him in front of the Agde convention center hall full of activists, and Louis Aliot ended his speech with a lively call for Marine Le Pen’s candidacy in 2027.
On the matter, the former President of the National Rally denies that there is a cigarette paper thickness between Jordan Bardella and Louis Aliot. “It’s the same political line, she repeats. This choice has nothing to do with the one that Bruno Gollnisch and I made in 2011.” In the eyes of elected officials and activists, the programmatic compass remains Marine Le Pen’s presidency project.
It is directly referred to by MPs working on future bills and amendments. Franck Allisio, pillar of the RN Group in the Finance Committee, will campaign for a 5.5% VAT on energy and the reduction of inheritance tax. Laure Lavalette, new member of the Social Affairs Committee, is preparing to face the government’s proposed pension reform “head on” and will defend the measures of the 2022 program.

So what will the next President of the National Rally be for? “The challenge is to choose the best to organize the party,” answers Marine Le Pen. That’s for the activists to decide.” A message received by the two competitors five out of five. Louis Aliot promises a more open party and passes on local establishment. While Jordan Bardella wants an “executive school”, the “government culture” within the party is to be strengthened.
Both emphasize their ability to turn the RN into a war machine to win future elections, particularly at local and regional levels, where the Flame Party has suffered severe setbacks in recent years.
A question of age
Activists will primarily have to choose between two personalities for these two candidates. At 53, Louis Aliot is almost twice Jordan Bardella’s age. He joined the Front National in 1990 and accompanied the rise of Marine Le Pen in the 2000s, dismissing the old front guard until it was then nicknamed “loulou la purge”. He was also Marine Le Pen’s companion for ten years. Elected in Midi-Pyrénées since 1998, he snapped up Perpignan City Hall in 2020 after years of local activism.

At 27, Jordan Bardella has enjoyed a stellar career in the National Rally. A member since he was 16, he is a pure product of the Marine Generation. After being department secretary of the party at the age of 19 and elected regional councilor of the Île-de-France in 2015, he was bombed at just 23 as the list leader in the European elections, winning more than 23% of the votes before the list of republic on the move.
He has garnered much more support among elected officials and is the big favorite to lead the party. And although Marine Le Pen warned from the outset that she would not reveal her preference, all the pillars of her presidential campaign – Philippe Olivier, Jean-Philippe Tanguy, Caroline Parmentier, etc. – are leaning in favor of Jordan Bardella. A clear sign.
