Nazi salute to the Assembly: MP LREM donates to an association

Renaissance MP (ex-LREM) Rémy Rebeyrotte announced on Friday that he had donated 1,000 euros to an association, renewing his apologies after giving a Nazi salute in the National Assembly Chamber on July 12 in the direction of a MP RN.

“I have decided to make a donation of 1,000 euros to an association that I know well, that I also support and that does remarkable work for the maintenance of memory and support for families, the FNDIRP (National Federation of Deportees, Internees, Resistance fighters and Partisans), “said the elected representative of Saône-et-Loire in a press release.

Mr. Rebeyrotte also apologized again “to those whom I sincerely hurt (…) and in particular the families of victims of Nazi barbarism”.

The deputy found himself at the center of a controversy after having made a Nazi salute in the hemicycle of the Assembly during a vote on the health bill, during which the majority was beaten.

“A big guy from the RN got up making the Nazi salute” at the back of the spans, assured Mr. Rebeyrotte to AFP. The parliamentarian from Saône-et-Loire then mimicked the gesture, telling him that “we must not do that”.

No visual evidence of such a Nazi salute was found by an RN deputy and the far-right group announced this week to file a complaint for defamation.

Mr. Rebeyrotte received a call to order from the President of the Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet (LREM). This is the first level of sanction provided for within the institution, which was denounced by several elected RNs who considered it insufficient.
