Nicolas Bourgeois, leader of the Renaissance Oise party, attacks Caroline Cayeux while defending her
Here is the letter from Nicolas Bourgeois, referent of the Renaissance party in the department of Oise:
“Dear all, fellow members, fellow members,
Many of you have sent me messages following Caroline Cayeux’s comments on Tuesday on Public Senate during which the Minister for Local Authorities assured that she “obviously maintained her comments” against marriage for all and added “j I have many friends among all these people and frankly, it is a bad trial that I am being made.
I completely understand the tone of your messages. Emmanuel Macron’s project has always made the fight against discrimination an absolute priority. And you are very numerous within the movement to be involved in associations fighting against intolerance and discrimination.
The movement that I represent here in the Oise strongly condemns these inappropriate remarks by Caroline Cayeux. These words are clearly not in line with our values. They are usually those of a curled-up France, those of an ultra-conservative right that we are fighting election after election, nationally and locally. These words are no longer in tune with the realities and aspirations of our time.
As you know, Caroline Cayeux is not a member of LaREM or any of our partner parties. It is therefore not possible to act on the basis of compliance or not with our Statutes.
Caroline Cayeux supported the President of the Republic in his re-election. And the President trusted her by appointing her to the Government 10 days ago.
Within the Government, within the presidential majority, in our ranks and those that our friends, among the associations involved in the fight against all discrimination, voices are raised to condemn these remarks from another age. But also to worry about the public policies that could be conducted on the basis of such principles.
I am, like you, sad that the only Minister of the Oise of the Government today sends such a harsh message to the address of some of our fellow citizens and our friends.
Caroline Cayeux apologized for her remarks, but the emotion remains strong for many, particularly in our department.
I know that we can count on the President of the Republic and on the Prime Minister to be vigilant that such remarks can never again emanate from a member of the Government of our country.
We campaigned together, with @carolinecayeuxduring the presidential elections.
The project of@EmmanuelMacron bears tolerance and respect.
Many in the Oise were shocked by the minister’s remarks, a week after her appointment. His apologies are welcome. https://t.co/MQUk9TvJz6
