Nord Stream shutdown unrelated to Western sanctions, Washington replies to Moscow
Russia” chose close » the Nord Stream gas pipeline that supplies Europe, and it is obviously wrong” Like Moscow, the White House reacted on Tuesday (September 6) to linking this ruling to Western sanctions.
« The United States and Europe are working together to ensure there are enough supplies.”said a spokesman for the US National Security Council, promising that ” Europe’s gas reserves will be full for the winter”.
« We know there is still a long way to go and we continue to look at ways to increase Europe’s gas reserves or, where possible, to help promote other energy sources.”‘ said the spokesman.
Europe is likely to face acute gas shortages this winter following Russian giant Gazprom’s announcement on Friday of the complete shutdown of its Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline.
The Kremlin has linked the suspension of supplies to this strategic gas pipeline to Western sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, ensuring the latter prevented gas infrastructure from being maintained.
