Noyon. Huge fire at the Sarrazin residence
Significant resources are mobilized to fight the flames this Wednesday, August 3. The fire broke out on the roof of the Sarrazin residence, rue Saint-Barthélemy. According to Picard mail about fifteen apartments were destroyed.
“It was ten minutes to twelve when I heard an explosion. And very quickly, I saw smoke. It was impressive… And yet, I don’t live nearby,” says Véronique, a resident of rue Albert-Schweitzer.
Since mid-March, the roof of the residence has been under construction. “It was a question of renovating the roof and redoing the insulation. The construction site was almost finished. It was supposed to end on Friday.”confirms Arlette Verahegge, president of the union committee of the residence.
A spark on the construction site?
Other witnesses evoke a spark on this construction site which would have set fire to the roof.
The three buildings of the residence were affected. These are home to 46 homes and shops.
During the intervention, traffic was cut off in several streets in the city center: rue Saint-Barthélemy, boulevard Sarrazin (where the firefighters have established their command post). A security perimeter which was widened around 1 p.m. at Place Saint-Barthélemy to facilitate the comings and goings of firefighters’ vehicles.
Following this disaster, the municipality announced the closure of Noyon Plage until further notice. The event was held a few hundred meters from the burned buildings, Grimaldi car park.
