Noyon. The fire at the Sarrazin residence affected 33 homes and 14 commercial premises
Firefighters are still mobilized on the fire at the Sarrazin residence. At 5 p.m., firefighters were still battling the flames. The fire broke out at the end of the morning shortly after 11:30 a.m., on the roof of the Sarrazin residence in Noyon. According to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Oise, 33 homes and 14 commercial premises were affected. According to several witnesses, the fire started from the roof of the residence on rue Saint-Barthélémy. Work was underway there to renovate the roof and re-insulate the building. Construction was due to be completed on Friday. Several witnesses explain that the fire was the result of a spark, while a worker was handling a blowtorch on the roof of building A of the residence. Everything then went very quickly. The flames spread to buildings B and C of the residence. The system deployed by the Oise SDIS is important. About fifty firefighters are hard at work to put out the flames. When the first emergency vehicles arrived, the fire threatened to spread to adjoining buildings on both sides. To avoid it, the firefighters deployed five lances, including three on aerial means. A deployment which made it possible to stop the spread and to control the fire.
The human toll remains unknown
33 homes and 14 commercial premises were affected. “The emergency services will remain on site for part of the evening to avoid any recovery.“Said the SDIS of Oise. For the time being, the human toll is not known, the fire not yet allowing the excavation of the rubble. For a few hours, the municipality welcomed the victims at the Marcel-Provost school in Noyon. A dozen people were thus taken care of for a few hours.
At that moment, all of them left school, all of the victims having found accommodation with relatives.
