Nupes and RN are already vying for the presidency of the Finance Committee
Monday, June 20, the New popular ecological and social union (Nupes) experienced its first public crisis since its creation, with the refusal of the other stakeholders to create a single group in the National Assembly around La France Insoumise (LFI). Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s proposal was received with great surprise by the ranks of Europe Ecologie Les Verts (EELV), the Communist Party (PC), Génération.s and the Socialist Party (PS), while the agreement signed before the elections provided for each organization to have its own group at the Palais Bourbon. A proposal which probably aims to run for the post of chairman of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, which traditionally goes to an elected member from the largest opposition group.

The far-right party sends 89 deputies to the hemicycle, making it numerically the most represented opposition party in the lower house of Parliament. Of the 131 deputies under the Nupes label: 72 are members of LFI, 12 of the PC, 23 of EELV and 24 of the PS. “We will ask (…) the chairmanship of the Finance Committee, of course (…) because the group we have which is once again the first opposition group in the Assembly will not compromise on any of the means granted to it by tradition or by republican rules to be able to defend the French,” Marine Le Pen told the press on Monday.
