Oslo’s gas superprofit is heating up Europe
Worried about its image, Norway, the world’s fourth-biggest gas exporter, today has to defend itself against being a war profiteer. To date, gas, oil and power sales have brought in around $50 billion annually. Today the manna amounts to more than $200 billion. Faced with a severe energy crisis, the European Union is no longer optimistic about the record profits of its Nordic partner – which is part of the European Economic Area but not the Union. In May, Poland expressed dissatisfaction with the “insane” prices of Scandinavian gas.
