Peiter Zatko, the former hacker scaring Twitter
In the middle of a takeover by Elon Musk, Twitter would have done without such a bomb. On Tuesday, August 23, the social network was targeted by a whistleblower’s revelations. Peiter Zatko, known as “Mudge”, is one of his former employees. In a complaint addressed to the US Congress, the person responsible for the platform’s security until January accused Twitter of neglecting several security flaws that endangered dozens of users of the social network and exposed them to foreign interference.
For having worked for the United States Department of Defense (DARPA), Peiter Zatko is not on the first try. The cybersecurity expert, who was one of the most prominent hackers of his generation in Boston in the 1990s, had warned the US Senate about the risks of hacking in the US back in 1998 at a hearing Twitter recruited to strengthen security architecture at the request of founder Jack Dorsey. An experience that would have turned out to be a fiasco, so the Washington Post and CNN, in whose columns the “whistleblower” decided to start the warning.
