Peugeot 408, Citroën C4X: Stellantis presents 2 models in one week
The lion’s SUV-sedan-coupé (phew!) will be the highlight of the next Paris Motor Show, which will be held from October 17 to 23 in Paris. But no Citroën on the stands, since the firm with the chevrons will not be present there! Both models are meant to be colorful vehicles, mixing genres, according to the marketing trend of the moment. The Peugeot 408 will thus be a car with sharp, aggressive lines; which will also have SUV characteristics, but lowered to consume less and emit CO2. While sporting a style close to the adventurer models, but still softened. A kind of larger Renault Arkana. The body will border on 4.70 meters long (against 4.45 for a 3008)!
It will be derived from the 308 sedan on the same evolved version of the EMP2 platform, but lengthened. The 408 will therefore logically be placed in price above the 3008, whose range starts at 32,750 euros in gasoline, and which was sold to the tune of 180,000 units last year. It will use the 1.2 Pure Tech gasoline engines, but a priori will be devoid of diesel. Plug-in hybrid versions will be on the program, including the 180 horsepower of the 308. “Prices will be communicated to the Mondial with first deliveries next January”, according to an unofficial source. A price from 35-36,000 euros is envisaged. This alternative solution to the famous Peugeot 3008 but also to the 508 will be “made in France” since produced in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin) alongside the sedan and the 308 station wagon. It should also be manufactured in China for the local market.
Manufactured in Spain based on Peugeot 208
At Citroën, the four-door sedan, with a coupé-style rear but… raised to make an SUV, will be derived from the current C4. On the same CMP platform of the small cars of the group like the Peugeot 208, the machine will be disproportionately lengthened to 4.60 meters. Under the probable name of C4X, it will be placed between the 4.36 meters of the C4 and 4.80 of the C5X. This car with a prominent trunk will take up almost as it is the entire front part, the windshield, the doors, the side windows and the interior of the C4, in order to achieve synergies. Only the posterior part will be deeply modified. The C4X should take over the engines of the C4, namely the Pure Tech three-cylinder 1.2 (100 and 130 horsepower on the C4). And the car will indeed exist in an electric version of 136 horsepower, like the ë-C4. It is not yet clear whether the 1.5 Blue HDI diesel will be in the game. The car will be produced in the suburbs of Madrid, Spain alongside the current C4.
The vehicle will be sold in France, but its vocation intends it in particular for external markets. France is not very fond of these sedans with separate trunk. On the other hand, Southern or Eastern Europe, but also the Maghreb or Turkey, are more interested in these larger bodies and therefore supposedly more flattering than the five doors. Marketing will take place next December or January. The prices will be placed, logically, between those of a C4 (from 22,900 euros) and the C5X (from 33,900). But the range will be closer to the C4 than the C5X.
