Police operation: Parliament evacuated

In Ottawa, Parliament was evacuated on Saturday afternoon due to a major police operation. Ultimately, no threat to public safety was identified, according to law enforcement.

For several hours, numerous officers from the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) closed Wellington and Metcalfe streets to the public.

An imposing security perimeter has been erected in front of Parliament Hill. Few details have circulated on this police intervention linked to “a suspicious incident”, indicated the SPO via its Twitter account.

The police operation in Parliament ended around 4 p.m., according to the police.

“No threat to public safety has been identified. The place is reopened to the public,” mentioned the SPO via Twitter, thanking the population for their collaboration.
