Porsche 911 GT3 Pack Touring: One of the best sports cars in the world

It can be difficult for a newcomer to find their way around the Porsche range. The 911 is available in around twenty variants, all of which share the same unmistakable silhouette that has made the German sports car unmistakable since 1963. At first glance, the GT3 with its power of 510 hp seems to be in the middle between the GTS (480 hp) and the Turbo (580 hp). But stopping at the cavalry of the six-cylinder boxer does not make it possible to recognize the true specialty of the 911 GT3. In an area that has almost entirely gone turbo since 2015, it is the only one to retain an atmospheric engine. This is what really makes it a unique model within the range. Technically, the differences between the Porsche 911 GT3 and the other 911 versions, which rely heavily on versatility, are numerous. For real, the flat-six powering the GT3 is a racing engine shared with the 911 GT3 Cup. With a displacement of 4.0 litres, it features dry sump lubrication, while its redline peaks at 9,000 rpm. Admittedly, it has direct injection and two particle filters. However, that did not prevent the Porsche engineers from further developing the stainless steel exhaust system like organists. Once the valves are open (which is automatic in Sport or Track mode), the sound ramps up in a beguiling manner towards the top end, almost like Formula 1. The range of this block is perhaps a little less rich and complex than the previous generation , but only a few manufacturers manage to guarantee such a symphony despite current noise and pollution standards.

Almost reasonable numbers, but supercar feels

The Porsche 911 GT3 picks up again on a forgotten listening pleasure, and it also has the good taste not to take on overly exuberant mechanical management. The 470 Nm of torque are progressively reduced, the long stroke of the gas pedal with a perfectly linear map enables fine dosing of the engine impulses. Thanks to its super-square dimensions (102mm bore, 81.5mm stroke), the flat-six appears completely devoid of indolence and he scales the towers with greed and energy. Porsche announces acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 10.8 seconds. On paper, performance seems almost modest compared to supercars that go for astronomical numbers, but the thrill that runs through your spine when you accelerate is the sign of an exceptional model.
