Renaissance calls for a commission of inquiry into possible “Russian financing” of parties

Eight Renaissance MPs have called for the opening of a commission of inquiry in the Assembly into possible “Russian funding” of French parties, after declassified American information emerged showing hundreds of millions of euros have been paid by Russia in several countries.

In a press release published on Saturday, these deputies of the Presidential Party refer to a letter sent the previous day to the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, in which they justify the ordering of such an investigation “in view of the serious facts” and, therefore, the information obtained “can be brought to the attention of French citizens and our judicial system”.

It is about “knowing whether French political parties – and which ones – have benefited from Russian funding”. They cite “pro-Russian positions of several leading French politicians”, as well as “loans taken out to finance election campaigns and the amounts of which are still due many years later” or even “the hiring of former French nationals in Russian companies, parliamentarians and ministers”.

On Friday, the National Assembly, which rejects the majority allegations of dependence on Russian power, also announced that it would introduce a resolution on Monday to set up a commission of inquiry in the assembly. According to RN, its role would be to “specify the nature of the links between certain elected officials of the majority of the president and Qatar”, “determine” possible links between the majority and China and examine “what amounts to a real legislature”. Co-production between the President’s Party and the American giants Amazon, Microsoft, Google or even Uber”.

According to a declassified American intelligence document released on September 13, Russia has paid hundreds of millions of euros to political parties in several countries since 2014 to increase its influence and influence the polls.
