Renault will build communicating cars with Google

In September 2018, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance secured Google’s services and received the right to use the American giant’s Android Automotive OS in its cars. On November 8th, Renault Group and Google announce the renewal of their partnership and the “signing of new agreements”. Aim to “offer the best of the automotive and digital world new services on request and enable continuous vehicle updates”.

The original agreement has been reflected in a very visible way for several months in the two latest models launched by Renault to date. The 100% electric Megane E-Tech and the compact SUV Austral feature a Renault OpenR infotainment system whose touch interface is based on Android OS, the Google ecosystem and Renault’s specific operating system “MyRenault”.

With the introduction of Android Automotive, Renault wants to catch up with Tesla and premium manufacturers
