MOSCOW (Reuters) – A Russian court on Thursday fined messaging app WhatsApp (Meta Platforms Inc) and the owner of Snapchat (Snap Inc) for refusing to store Russian user data in the country , reported the news agencies.

The Tagansky District Court in Moscow fined WhatsApp 18 million rubles (293.355 million euros) and Snap a fine of one million rubles, according to news agencies. WhatsApp was fined for the same offense last August.

Meta and Snap did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Meta was convicted of “extremist activity” in Russia and had his appeal dismissed in June, but the Whatsapp service remains available.
