The deputy of Oise Eric Woerth candidate for the presidency of the National Assembly

Eric Woerth at the roost? He applied.

From the presidency of the finance committee to the presidency of the National Assembly? Barely re-elected MP for Oise, Eric Woerth announced in the Parisian, this Tuesday, June 21, to be a candidate for the perch. Contacted, his entourage confirms it. “He is looking for a way to be useful to his country“, comments Manoëlle Martin, his parliamentary attaché. The interested party adds on his Twitter account:I want to embody a National Assembly that works seriously and put my experience at the service of parliamentarians“.

An application already upset

But before presiding over the debates at the Palais Bourbon, the former LR deputy, now a deputy of the presidential majority, must overcome several obstacles. Mainly the absence of an absolute majority in the hemicycle for the macronist camp.

And there is no question of counting on a possible rallying of his former LR comrades. Their president Christian Jacob has closed the door to any idea of a coalition. And not sure that the transfer of Eric Woerth with arms and baggage from the right to the majority is still digested or forgiven.

If his candidacy is maintained and following the discussions at the Elysée, since Tuesday, between the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron and the representatives of the main political parties, Eric Woerth will be fixed on Tuesday June 28, during a ballot secret. To be elected, the President of the Assembly must receive an absolute majority of votes in the first or second round. Otherwise, he may benefit from an election by relative majority.
