The police on the water this weekend to prevent accidents

Nautical activities are in vogue in Quebec during the summer period. In order to make the population aware of good safety practices, several police services will launch this weekend the operation “This summer on the water, be legit”.

From July 29 to 31, the police will carry out various interventions “as much at the dock as on the bodies of water, or on the nearby road when returning home”.

This will be the very first concerted national operation (ONC) for recreational tourism, the objective of which is to avoid risky behavior on the water.

“Knowing your boat and becoming familiar with its equipment during nautical activities can avoid deplorable situations due to inexperience”, specify the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) and the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) via press release. .

On the occasion of this first edition, the various police services would like to remind you of a few safety rules. Among their rules, it is specified that each occupant aboard a boat should wear a personal flotation device. A first aid kit is also highly recommended.

On the bodies of water, boaters are required to respect others and to be vigilant. It is also recommended not to consume alcohol on board a boat.

A guide on boating safety advice and rules is available to the public.
