The stable unemployment rate in Quebec

Employment remained stable in July across the province. The unemployment rate has reached 4.1%, according to the latest figures from Statistics Canada.

The unemployment rate has thus continued to “hover around a record low” in Quebec, according to the government agency.

The same scenario is true in the Montreal metropolitan area, where employment varied little in July. The unemployment rate held steady at 4.7 per cent, Statistics Canada says.

As for the unemployment rate in Canada, it also remained stable, standing at 4.9% last month. This is a “record low” across the country that corresponds to the “historic low recorded in June”, says the organization.

As for long-term unemployment, it fell by 12.2% to 162,000 people in July. This is a decrease for a third consecutive month, says the institution.

It should be noted that among public sector employees, employment fell by 1.2% in July, which represents “the first decline in the sector in 12 months”. This decrease was largely observed in Quebec and Ontario, according to Statistics Canada.
