Awkwardness. This is how Elisabeth Borne summarizes Caroline Cayeux’s words about “these people”. The Prime Minister interviewed by the magazine Têtu spoke again on the controversy generated by the old positions, and the recent comments of Caroline Cayeux, mayor of Beauvais and minister delegate for Local authorities. These are “awkward words can echo homophobic visions”, agreed Elisabeth Borne, acting as the Minister’s spokesperson.

“Awkward words that she regrets”

It “made unfortunate comments that she deeply regrets”, assures the head of the government. The Prime Minister explains that she spoke about the controversy with Caroline Cayeux : “She told me she was absolutely sorry for making comments that may have hurt”. “Caroline Cayeux did not intend to insult LGBT+ people. Her expression was unhappy and she sincerely regrets it”, insists the Prime Minister.

While the government has just announced the creation of a post of ambassador for LGBT + rights before the end of the year, Borne repeated the priorities on the issue : “The line of the President of the Republic, mine and that of the government is very clear: we will advance the rights of LGBT + people and reduce discrimination.» And this ambassador will have to “support the universal decriminalization of homosexuality and ensure that we reverse the trend on a global scale, which is not at all favorable at the moment”.

“Caroline Cayeux shares this intention and will act in this direction”, wants to believe Elisabeth Borne
