UK: Jeremy Hunt postpones budget and tax measures announcement to Monday
LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s new Treasury Secretary Jeremy Hunt is set to announce budget and tax measures on Monday, two weeks ahead of schedule, the Treasury said, as the Chancellor of the Exchequer seeks to restore Britain’s economic credibility.
“The Chancellor will make a statement later today outlining the measures in the medium-term fiscal plan that will support financial sustainability,” the UK Treasury said.
“He will also be making a statement in the House of Commons this afternoon,” he added.
Jeremy Hunt was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer last Friday to replace Kwasi Kwarteng after financial markets panicked over his plans for massive unfunded tax cuts.
