USA: Polemicist Alex Jones has to pay the families of Sandy Hook victims $965 million

(Reuters) – Far-right US polemicist Alex Jones has been ordered to pay $965 million to the families of victims of the Sandy Hook shooting, a Connecticut jury has ruled.

Based on conspiracy theories, Alex Jones claimed there never was a shooting and accused the victims of being actors.

The decision was made in Connecticut, not far from Sandy Hook Elementary School, where the December 2012 massacre occurred. Twenty children and six school staff died.

Although he has since admitted he was wrong, Alex Jones has for years claimed it was a government stunt as part of its fight against guns.

Back in August, a court in Texas, the home state of Infowars, the site he uses to spread his theories, ordered him to pay victims’ families $49.3 million.
