Virginie Calmels gives up the candidacy for the LR boss

On August 29, the LR High Authority had rejected Virginie Calmels’ candidacy, arguing that she was not up to date with her contribution of July 22, 2022.

The decision has since been overturned by the courts, but after that another difficulty arose when Virginie Calmels asked for the first round election dates scheduled for December 3rd and 4th to be postponed to allow time for campaigning – which LR refused. “Not wanting to condone these numerous legal irregularities and these political maneuvers by participating in this election, I decided to withdraw,” she told the JDD. “I salute this Tartufferie.”

In open conflict with Wauquiez

She also announces her wish not to take part in the campaign, whose declared candidates are MP for Alpes-Maritimes Eric Ciotti, Chief of Senators LR Bruno Retailleau, Secretary General of LR Aurélien Pradié and Mayor of Orleans Serge Grouard.

According to Virginie Calmels, “some behind the scenes are pulling the strings to install Eric Ciotti at the helm of the party and immediately proclaim Laurent Wauquiez as the LR candidate for the 2027 presidency. My candidacy was a grain of sand in the cogs of a scenario that needed good oiling.” Virginie Calmels, of liberal sensibility, is a former assistant to Alain Juppé in Bordeaux. She was fired in June 2018 by Laurent Wauquiez, then party leader, and stood in open conflict with her.

Virginie Calmels, former CEO of Endemol Monde, joined luxury real estate group Barnes in 2019 and founded a digital school in 2020.
