West Bank: A Palestinian was killed by Israeli forces, according to the Palestinian Ministry
Israeli forces on Sunday killed a Palestinian linked to an armed group in Nablus, a major city in the northern occupied West Bank that has been the scene of a spate of violence, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
A Palestinian was “shot dead by Israeli occupying forces in Nablus,” the ministry said in a statement.
For its part, the Israeli army said it opened fire on a “suspect” while conducting a routine operation.
“Israeli soldiers identified armed suspects in a vehicle and on a motorcycle traveling near Nablus. Soldiers responded by opening fire on the suspects, some of whom were shot dead,” the army said in an interview with AFP .
The leader of this coalition, Ibrahim al-Nabulsi, a young fighter nicknamed the “Lion of Nablus”, was killed in an operation by Israeli forces in August.
Last week, after the Palestinian police arrested Mussab Shtayyeh, a young local leader of the Islamists Hamas, hundreds of young people in Nablus, including members of the “Lions” accused of “coordinating” Palestinian forces, attacked the Israeli army.
“The young generation he brought together is not crazy. It’s young people who grew up under occupation, who only know about crackdowns and injustices, and it all makes them deeply angry,” Alaa al-Nabulsi, Ibrahim’s father, told AFP al-Nabulsi.
On Saturday, a Palestinian suspected of an attack was killed near Nablus by Israeli forces on high alert ahead of the major Jewish holidays, which begin Sunday night with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
Dozens of Palestinians, including members of armed groups, have been killed in the occupied West Bank in Israeli army operations that escalated after a series of anti-Israel attacks in March.
