When economists integrate the mysteries of power
Discreetly but surely, economists are invading the corridors of power. Three top researchers were appointed to key positions over the summer. Alexandra Roulet, 35, a former professor at Insead, has become Emmanuel Macron’s macroeconomic advisor. The specialist in the labor market and gender inequalities received her doctorate in 2017 from Harvard under the aegis of Philippe Aghion, a professor at the Collège de France who is very close to the President. Clémence Lenoir, a 31-year-old Normalian and author of an econometric model on export brakes, joined Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire’s watch. At the age of 48, Hippolyte d’Albis, director of research at the CNRS and an expert on the effects of demographics, will head the pole of economists at the prestigious Financial Inspectorate in Bercy.
